BBA Challenger Division      The Challenger division of BBA was created to give children with physical or mental disabilities the opportunity to play baseball in an organization much like their peers.  Ages of the children participating range from 5 years to18 years old.  The teams begin play during the last week of June, with one game a week, for six weeks.  The teams consist of different age ranges playing on a certain day (Monday-Thursday 6:30pm till 8pm) of the week, culminating on Thursdays with our competitive group.      Registration and the majority of communications are done via email.  Registration information is sent out some time in early April with closing in the middle or late May.  Fees for registration are $30.  The child will receive a shirt, hat and a trophy presented at our end of the year banquet.  Addition funds are raised throughout the season with a 50/50 raffle and a concession stand.      Games are played at Lovejoy Field at Lions Park off of Irishtown Road in Bethel Park.  Occasionally conflicts arise with functions being held by the Lions and another field in Bethel will be utilized.      Baseball games are set up like typical Tee Ball Games.  We use a soft cushion Tee ball and regular baseball bats.  The children are required to wear helmets to protect themselves, however we do realize that some children have sensitivities and may require adaptation.  We encourage family members to be “buddies” for the players, both around the bases and in the field.  There are usually young members of the community that volunteer there time to help out the kids, but not enough for each child.  There are no outs recorded and each team member bats each inning.  The last batter is the homerun hitter and circles the bases after hitting the ball.  The games are 3 innings long and last about 1-11/2 hours.      This year will mark our 10th season and it has been amazing process to see some these children develop over the years.  Please feel free to contact us at bpchallenger@yahoo.com Thankyou, Jackie and Dave Richert (412) 831-1031 BBA Challenger Application -    Click Here
